SecuROM conflicts with other software, the best-known being SysInternals' Process Explorer (prior to version 11). Disabling such software usually fixes the issue, but in some cases uninstallation is required. Software that can be used to bypass copy protection, such as disk drive emulators and debugging software, will block the launch of the game and generate a security module error.
Under Windows Vista, SecuROM will prevent a game from running if explicit congestion notification is enabled in Vista's networking configuration. This can occur on virtually any configuration, and reinserting the disc or rebooting the computer usually resolves the problem. SecuROM may not detect that the original game disc is in the drive.
But that's a problem entirely separate from Origin. SecuROM is malicious, and it should have been removed entirely from Origin editions of TS2 because Origin already serves as DRM. SecuROM is another issue entirely, of course. I'm not exactly an Origin fan myself (mostly because I already have Steam and don't appreciate needing an entire separate program just because EA decided they were too good for Steam), but I think it's important not to spread misinformation about it, especially in a community like the TS2 community where many people don't have the level of tech expertise needed to realize they should be taking these things with a grain of salt. Unless you consider your system specifications and the games you play "sensitive", I suppose. It's certainly not going to harm your computer, or in any way access sensitive data on your computer. There are legitimate issues to take up with digital game libraries like Steam and Origin, but Origin isn't malicious. I'd like to point out, though, that Origin is not inherently bad. You should even be able to uninstall Origin if you really want to. The old no-CD crack for Mansions and Gardens still works with the Ultimate Collection you can install it through Origin, and then use the crack to run it without Origin running.
